Redneck Bale Moving

I'm still working on getting the videos of Paula being a butt (literally) up, but I thought I'd share my little adventure in bale moving without the proper equipment.... Thanks so much to Rhodes Paint Horses for donating a bale of grass hay for Empress! The problem was, getting it over here.... My roundbale mover is still out in the middle of Kansas (waiting on a trailer ride out here), and I don't have a flatbed trailer, so I had this bright idea to just stick it in the back of my truck and I'd somehow pull it out.

Well, the bale was a LOT bigger than any of us thought!!

A LOT BIGGER!!!

My first task was to get it into the pasture, which I don't have proper gates for yet. It was a tight squeeze but I got it in there!
I then backed it up to the tree--about the biggest tree out in this pasture area. I was hoping it was going to be big enough....
The dogs were too scared to get out of the truck. I don't blame them!

So I got a rope around the bale...
And got a tow chain around the tree and tied that onto the rope. I had no idea what would give first: the rope, the chain, the tree, my truck, or would the bale simply slide off? Oh, so many things to go wrong here....

Empress was laying down not too far away. She didn't seem too concerned.

Fabian, Bambi, and Hope were lined up to watch the impending disaster. Fabian couldn't stand to look directly at the train wreck waiting to happen....

Paula had high-tailed it out of there... (sidenote, why is it that these boys have to hang their weiners out everytime they see a camera? Completely inappropriate LOL)

I get into the truck and start slowly moving the truck away from the tree, wondering what will happen. Empress is still not concerned at all....

And it WORKED! The bale moved! See, Empress knew all along....

Problem, though....

Oh well, I just had to cut apart my rope. I got pretty lucky that's all I lost! This was the only thing of note on my truck--just some leftover hay!

Got the rope and twine all cut off and Empress woke up and went over to check it out...and eat. All ends well on this episode of Redneck Bale Moving!! Get Er Done!!!

Hahaha...yes, I'm afraid I think he's to that point--it's a new toy to him (sadly, again, just like his father *sigh*)...

Hopefully you will get to come out and play soon! I will have to plan for that weekend--some fun things we can squeeze in and I think that the show in Cleveland is around that weekend--the one I really wanted to go to! I'm out working on the stalls again this afternoon, hoping to make some headway... hoping!! LOL! I've got to see where they cut the electricity off in the barn and get that going again and get some plugins wired for some FANS!! :)

OMG Jesse! This is so funny, I do the same thing only with a very big bag of alfalfa/oat cubes and then with the large square bales of hay. I seem to be able to get them in the truck just fine, but the getting it out is always a trick.

LOL!! Oh, Donna, I'm so glad I'm not the only one!! Then Vicki emailed me saying if I had it in the other way, then I could drive backwards really fast and just slam on the breaks and it should roll out--well I thought of that but this thing was way too big! ROFL!! But great minds think (and evidently do) alike! :))

Hey, whatever gets the hay out of there, huh? :) And BTW, I need to send you another email here soon.

Hugs,
J

Will do, Kim. I have the whole area show schedule up on my fridge, just in case I could make any this year. I'll let you know a few dates, but the Cleveland one is only about 15 miles away, so that would be really easy to swing by for the class!

I discovered that my landlord had cut off the electricity to the barn right where it goes into the garage, so I'll have to run a whole new line anyway--oh well. I've run lines before, but never installed a breaker. That might be another interesting blog: redneck electrical installation and free hair perm! ROFL!!!

I'm telling you, CJ is going to be a show diva. I can already tell. She's going to have quite the career. I dont' think she'll accept anything less :)

LOL, they told me that with the cubes, but they don't roll out of a truck with a g.n. hitch permanately sticking in the center of the bed. The bag just kinda sits there. And well, the square bales, we all know what they do. I am at work right now, either send me your phone number or call me at 775-629-0598/my email is: splashocoloranch@hotmail.com
