Running for...Fun?

I promise: Colorado updates will follow.

But since I've gotten home and am no longer on vacation, it means that real life must follow suit. Unfortunately. And I have to get back to my goals.

Which means I have to get back to my 5K goal.

Thanks so much to my Mom who gave me new running shoes for my birthday, I no longer have any excuse not to run.

Gee, thanks Mom....

Just kidding! I love them. I mean, really, really love them. I feel like I can fly in them, at least, until I start running. Then I feel like I can die in them, which is nice, too, actually.

They are the Nike Citius 2. And I even like the color.

So, I just checked my calendar and I have less than 5 weeks to train for this run. I've already gotten back to better eating and filled my fridge with veggies, chicken, and healthy snacks. Now, after five days off, I just have to figure out how to run again.

I've actually found a couple of useful articles that's helped me know I'm not alone in my newbie struggles:

Why Should I Run

Easy Going

By the way, I would love to get to that point in running where I'm not huffing and puffing like a run-away freight train. The runner in the article above said it took him 15 months. Huh?

I guess I just found a use for my stubbornness at last. I'm sure going to need it. Fifteen months of hyperventilating doesn't sound a bit fun at all. Over of a year of clutching my chest in certain death after a few miles isn't really my cup of tea. Sixty weeks of unattractive heavy-breathing really makes me question my motivation.

I have no idea why I'm doing this. I think it has something to do with wanting to be healthier, and in better shape to ride well. I want to look better, too, and feel better. I want to lose some weight so there's less stress on my back.

But surely there are better ways of accomplishing these goals. Certainly they don't include gasping for oxygen.

I tell you what, though. When I figure out why the heck I'm doing this, you all will be the first to know.

Good for you! 1/2 my family are runners, not me. I should though. My dad is running 20 miles now (some barefoot) to train for the Boston Marathon, my brother ran it last year. Still not sure why one would want to run for 26 miles. The 5K sounds like fun.
