I Need a Han

Well, it happened...

I fell off the wagon.

I had lost 7 pounds, then the storm hit. Boredom set in, and so then I gained two pounds back.

Ugh.

I feel disgusting, although it wasn't anything like the picture above. I didn't eat a whole pint of ice cream or a whole bag of doritos. I just splurged--a sonic breakfast burrito here, a couple of slices of pizza there....

Double ugh.

So now, I'm attempting to get back on the wagon before I gain everything back. I'm also breaking down and finally getting a treadmill.

I've planned to buy one for a while now, and I had it in my mind I could get a pretty nice one for under $200. Boy, was I wrong. Back before I wanted a treadmill, I saw people practically giving them away at garage sales, but now that I want one, they are on craigslist for even more than a new one costs. Crazy craigslisters....

Unfortunately a treadmill has also become somewhat of a medical neccessity with this weather. I've thought a lot about just waiting around for spring to start running again rather than take a hit to my pocketbook, but my back has been awful the last few days. It takes me a good five minutes before I can even think about standing up straight, and I'm 35, not 85! I keep getting leg cramps. All this sitting just kills me. I try to walk around outside as long as I can stand the cold, but it's not good enough. I need at least an hour of activity every single day for my back to be healthy. Usually with the horses and chores and taking care of the farm it's no problem, but times like this, it's a big problem.

Another problem with waiting for spring is that I feel like this:

And that means, my friends, that something must be done. No girl wants to feel like Jabba. I've got to break down and get a treadmill, and then actually use it.

I had back surgery 6 years ago for a herniated disk so I know all about having a bad back. Because of that I absolutely HAVE TO DO core exercises. Lots of crunches, planks, and supermans. If I don't I suffer. Walking helps but not nearly as much as keeping my core strong.

How much core work do you do?

I find for leg cramps, try eating something that's a good source of potassium - like a banana. Works for me. Good luck - winter is hard - I always get less exercise and eat more too. Don't be too hard on yourself - it'll come right.

Hope you find a reasonably priced treadmill. I love mine, scratch that,I don't love it but it's handy to have. I have this little plastic book holder that slips over the top so I read while I'm on it. Anyway, I wouldn't beat myself up over 2 pounds you can lose that again in no time. Good luck.

I think that does it to a lot of people. My husband and I so wanted to cave over the 2 days we were trapped in the house... but somehow we resisted the urge... I'm not sure how yet :)

I lost 3 lbs and then gained back 2. I hear you. I was really really good for two weeks and then one day I ate three pieces of pizza. Sigh. When it's cold, you just gotta have comfort food!

Coconut water is best for muscle cramps..not Coconut Milk...the water. Most Whole Foods or even Trader Joes carry it in containers, or in worse case, u buy a young coconut and use a sharp knife to poke a hole and drain into glass and enjoy. Also..THE best hangover cure!!!
We all waver with diets and feeling guilty is worse. Just get back on and dont beat yourself up! :)

Shannon, unfortunately I haven't done much core work, but you're absolutely, 100% right--that is really what makes a difference! I plan on starting back with my pilates tonight. Fortunately the walking this morning helped me enough that I think I can get through my DVD workout without severely injuring myself! LOL

Thank you for the tip, Kate! I've tried bananas (even though I don't like them LOL) and I think that while that's a great suggestion, my leg cramps are most likely due to my injured sciatic nerve, which I have a lot of problems with. :( Thank you, too, for the support!!!

Thank you Arlene--I did find one last night and managed to get it put together in 3 hours LOL! Oh well, it was great this morning--I did about 10 minutes of jogging and 20 minutes of brisk walking and I feel much better. Pilates tonight...maybe get myself all straightened out :)

Oh, Nicole, I don't know how you guys did it, either. I should have locked my fridge with a chain and deadbold LOL!!

Annette, you are so right--I started off being good with just salads but I really wanted my comfort food!! Of course if I was a svelt as you I wouldn't be too worried :))

I'll look for that, Kristen, next time I'm in the "big" city :) I wish so bad we had a place like that around here--I know in KC I shopped at Whole Foods often. I'd like to try that, though, and see. I think there might be one in Wichita.... Thanks for the support, too!!
