My Holiday Photos

Although I've been MIA for the past few days, I actually haven't been missing any action at all. In fact, I've found myself missing inaction. Gone are the days of laying on the couch, eating bon bons, and watching my soaps.

Well, that never actually happened. I don't even think I've ever had a bon bon and I don't like soap operas. I do like Soap, though. Both the show and the cleansing agent.

Anywho... while I was lax in my blogging duties, I was only partially lax in my photography duties. So, I present to the world, my offical New Years Holiday Picture Gallery, courtesy of my Blackberry, or as my dad likes to call it, my Blueberry.

As I mentioned earlier, Thursday I killed myself. One of the tasks that led to my demise was moving the roundpen. I decided that it should be not in the grass, but in a more sandy area.

I know, I know, you wished you had thought of that yourself. Brilliant!

Not that you can see anything in those pics, but trust me, the first one is sans-roundpen, the second one is the roundpen's new home, and both are fabulous, baby.

OK, I'll stop.

I guess in the horses' grand scheme of making sure that I'm able to use up all the medical supplies I keep on hand (so very kind of them), they decided it was Bambi's turn to sacrifice herself on the veterinary altar.

Bambi:

Bambi's sacrificial act:

Thankfully it's healing right up, but not before a lovely infection insued, utilizing every large syringe, 18-gauge needle and every ounce of penicillin I had, not to mention half a bottle of betadine, and 10 cc's of flunixin meglumine when she had issues due to a moderate fever.

Way to take one for the team, Babs. We wouldn't want any of those supplies just sitting there.

Since I'm incredibly scared of the prospect of colic, I decided that I absolutely had to either install a water heater in the north pen or let the horses out so they could get to the heated water by the barn. I decided to spend the money on a new heater rather than tear up my only source of pasture.

However, this was easier said than done since the tank is in the middle of a fenceline where horses have access to both sides. I decided to run the extension cord through PVC pipe.

Not pretty, but by golly, it's safe!

One lesson learned the hard way, though, is be sure to test the new tank heater before installing two-thousand zip ties to hold it tight to the fence! I didn't, and had to redo the entire thing when I learned the water heater I had purchased was a dud.

The horses (Betty, Paula, and Moose) were entirely ungrateful.

(Yes, Betty's knee is swollen--your eyes do not deceive you. It's an ongoing issue I'll cover a bit later. Thankfully it hasn't caused any problems with her soundness--yet).

Swine horses.

Bambi and Fabian watch from across the way.

Silly kids.

I'd post more, but I've got to run back to the store to exchange for a hopefully working tank heater, pick up grain, and a few other things. Those bon bons, my couch and my soaps keep calling, but I fear the only one who will be seeing me anytime soon is the soap.

Rub-a-dub-dub, I've got too much horse hair in my tub,

Whoa - that extension cord through pvc idea is a kee-per!

Gotta love chores. Preparing to "kill myself" this coming weekend when I move a years worth of composted manure... sans tractor :)

Hope your grandmother has a smooth and comfortable recovery.

I really like that pipe idea for the extension cord, good thinking there!

Poor Bambi, she was just giving you that Christmas splash of red you were missing. She's thoughtful.

Thanks, Calm! Ugh, I hate moving manure, but it's a neccessary evil. That's also what did me in--that, and moving it to my front lawn, but it helps both. It just doesn't help my back much! LOL Good luck with your chores!!

Yep, Nicole--as always :) Glad you liked the line. LOL

Thanks, Shannon! It was so cheap, too--only $11 for the pipe and connectors, so definitely worth it. And yes, Babs is such a thoughtful little girl, thinking of ME. LOL!!
