My Other Appendageless Friend

This is my resident garter snake. He lives in my garden, so I call him my "gardner snake," although he does no gardening at all. My garden is full of weeds.

He really needs to get his act together and dig in.

I call him a "he," but I really don't know for sure what "he" is. My mom would say to look really closely at his head.

"Do you see a bow?" she would ask.

"No, I don't," I'd say.

Then he's a boy.

I've seen him so many times now that I've decided he's deserving of a name. Pete? Fred? Hmmmm....I think I'll call him "Albert."

Afterall, there just aren't enough "Alberts" around here.

OK, get to work Albert. Get gardening!

He is doing his part by eating insects :)

What a cute little guy. I have to admit if I saw him in my garden I would let out a scream though, just from the initial shock:)
