Sophie's New Play Buddy

This is Tuff, my neighbor's dog.

Tuff likes to bark.

He has big, floppy jowls.

He's a kind soul and a good dog.

Even though he can look and sound otherwise with that menacing, gruff bark of his.

Tuff has become a fixture up here on the hill.

He likes the horses, he likes Sophie and Charlie, and heaven help him, he even seems to like me.

As I mentioned before, Sophie's feelings aren't quite mutual....yet.

But Tuff tries his best to play with Sophie and be her friend.

Although sometimes he can get a little too personal.

But she finally gives in and they play...

and play...

and play some more.

Until they've just about worn each other out.

Then Sophie does the unimaginable: she surrenders.

She gives in to the friendship.

Tuff will certainly never replace the very special place in our hearts reserved for Samson, but the gruffy ole black dog is sure working hard on carving out a place of his own.

I LOVE those shots of Tuff barking and his lips flappiing! What a mess he seems to be, good thing Miss Sophie decided to give it up and be his friend, silly girl. Was she cold? Does she wear a jacket all winter?

I don't think a new dog can ever replace a lost one but Tuff sure is a good distraction for the moment and seems like Miss Sophie is giving into having fun!

Kim,
Tuff is a mess! But he's a good dog :) That was Saturday morning and it was FREEZING out! Sophie does get cold and this is her play hoodie--it's stained and tore so it's the one she wears when she's out around the farm. She's so spoiled she lets me know when she's cold and she's started sleeping UNDER the covers now, the silly thing....
She has a heavier waterproof jacket, a jean jacket, and lots of sweaters. Yeah, not spoiled one bit....

Ah yes, Tuff is a great distraction :) Sophie is something of a diva but she loves to play even more, so I knew it was a matter of time! I worried about her--even considered getting her a new playmate (indoor dog like Charlie and Sophie) but I just couldn't do a third dog again, especially inside so she'll have to make due, poor, neglected little thing.....
