Spiderwebs

My sister and I went for a walk around my neighbor's property a few days ago (I have their standing permission). They have some really nice trails set up, so we took the dogs and started following one trail. It wasn't long before we ran into this.

Not too bad. Kind of pretty, actually, with the morning dew...

And the leaf suspended....

We walked around that, easily enough, and soon encountered one that actually went across the entire path.

No big deal. We thought they were actually kind of pretty and peaceful looking.

Then we saw this one...barely.

You can just make out the rings in the middle of the photograph. It was that difficult to see in person, too. At this point we started having second thoughts about our choice of trail.

Then we saw this.

Yeah, this bugger. Yikes.

At this point we didn't even stay long enough to entertain second thoughts. We did an about-face and high-tailed it home.

But I did stop to enjoy something a little less creepy and just a little more beautiful.

Serene, pretty but yes a little creepy. We have banana spiders here that are the size of your hand. They come in June and usually are gone by right about now. They're body is rather banana shaped and sunflower yellow. Weird, creepy but kinda neat lookin', less you see it upclose while walking through the web! They're not toxic or anything though.
